Fade In: Hans Richter, Rhythm 21 (1921, NR)

The Visual Arts Center presents Fade In, a program of specially selected films and videos projected from the windows of the Art Building. For the first Spring 2012 edition of Fade In, the VAC presents Hans Richter’s 1921 avant-garde film Rhythm 21. Screened in response to Justin Boyd’s exhibition, Dubforms, Richter's first film stands at the very beginning of the avant-garde film movement presenting an innovative approach never before seen on film. In Rhythm 21, Richter utilized the movie screen as a substitute for the painter’s canvas, and articulated movements of mathematical precision and graphic clarity on screen. This short silent film will run continuously on a loop until midnight each evening through March 10.
