Small, Miscellaneous, Occasionally Useful: A Conversation with the Artists of Junk Drawer

In this informal conversation, Mai Snow (MFA, UT Austin, 2020) joins the artists of Junk Drawer—Caddy Burns, Abby Johnson, and Sarah Stellman (BFA, UT Austin, 2020)—to discuss their thoughts on domesticity, personal objects and images, and the translation of these ideas into painting, print, and sculpture.

Junk Drawer is on view January 30 – March 27, 2021.

 

Bios

Caddy Burns lives and works in Austin, Texas. She received her BFA in Studio Art at The University of Texas at Austin in Fall 2020. Her work has been shown in group exhibitions at Happy Gallery Chicago (2020) and Ox-Bow School of Art and Artist’s Residency (2019).

Abby Johnson lives and works in Austin, Texas. She graduated with honors from The University of Texas at Austin with a BFA in Studio Art in Fall 2020. Her work was included in the 2020 UT Art and Art History Research Week Exhibition.

Sarah Stellman lives and works in Austin, Texas. She received her BFA in Studio Art with a minor in Art History at The University of Texas at Austin in Fall 2020. She is currently a fellow at the Riso Room in the Department of Art and Art History. Her work was included in the 2020 UT Art and Art History Research Week Exhibition.

Mai Snow  (b. 1990, Perm, Russia) received their BFA from Maine College of Art in 2013 and their MFA from The University of Texas at Austin in 2020. Snow has shown their paintings throughout New England, Texas and the Midwest. Their work is currently on view at Space Gallery in Portland, Maine and in the 2020 Maine Biennial at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art.
