The kaleidoscopic exhibition Landfall showcases the artwork of performance artist and contemporary music pioneer Laurie Anderson. Presented in conjunction with her performance Landfall with the Kronos Quartet at Texas Performing Arts on October 16, the exhibition is a physical and visual manifestation of Anderson’s intensely rhythmic multi-media performance. Tracing aspects of her long-standing interest in storytelling, as well as strangely unexpected intersections among art, music, technology, and language, Landfall highlights moments and stories from the world around us, as observed through Anderson’s distinct gaze.

Bio
Laurie Anderson, one of today’s leading performance artists, lives and works in New York. She graduated magna cum laude from Barnard College with a degree in Art History and received an MFA in Sculpture from Columbia University in 1972. Known primarily for her multimedia presentations, Anderson has cast herself in roles as varied as visual artist, composer, poet, photographer, filmmaker, electronics whiz, vocalist, and instrumentalist. She was named NASA’s first artist-in-residence in 2003 and is currently the inaugural distinguished artist-in-residence at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Anderson has performed and exhibited extensively nationally and internationally, and her work is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and Harvard University Art Museum among others.
About the Curator
Margo Sawyer is an artist and Professor in Sculpture in the Department of Art and Art History at The University of Texas at Austin. She received her BA from the Chelsea School of Art in London and her MFA in Sculpture from Yale in 1982, where Sawyer and Anderson first met. With a keen interest in contemporary American art, Sawyer creates installations that explore the ways in which architecture and ritual converge to create a forum for contemplation and reflection.
