Wildflower Planting Workshop with artist Pallavi Sen

As part of the exhibition How to Grow the Cowpea: Survival Strategies from the U.S. South, artist Pallavi Sen will amend the VAC’s outdoor courtyard by planting a heat and drought resistant garden. In consultation with the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, Sen selected a range of plants to support a healthy ecosystem within the courtyard’s built and natural landscape. The garden will also serve as a site for close looking for students in the art building: how might planning for the ever-evolving shape of a garden, tracking the changing interactions of color, and caring for the garden across the seasons inform an art practice?

During this workshop, Sen will share an overview of her practice and invite visitors to plant flowers. Kyle Cheesborough, Director of Gardens and Collections at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, will demonstrate planting and share additional information on growing native plants in Central Texas.
