Maré de Matos (b. 1987, Governador Valadares, Brazil) lives and works in São Paulo, Brazil. She earned her BA in Visual Arts at Universidade do Estado de Minas Gerais (2009), an MA in Literary Theory from Universidade Federal do Pernambuco (2019), and is currently pursuing her doctorate at Universidade de São Paulo. She has had solo exhibitions at Galeria Lume, São Paulo (2022); Museu de Arte Moderna Aloisio Magalhães, Recife (2016); and A Casa do Cachorro Preto, Olinda (2016). Her work has been included in group exhibitions at Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo (2022); Museu de Arte do Rio, Rio de Janeiro (2022); Museu da Língua Portuguesa, São Paulo (2021); Museu Afro Brasil, São Paulo (2021); Museu Brasileiro de Escultura, São Paulo (2021); Instituto Moreira Salles, São Paulo (2021); Centro Cultural São Paulo (2020); Sesc Pompeia, São Paulo (2020); Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo (2019); Museu da Abolição, Recife (2019); and Museu Murilo La Greca, Recife (2018); among others. She was in residence at Veiculo Sur between 2021 and 2022, Pivô Pesquisa, São Paulo in 2021, and AfroTranscendence, São Paulo in 2016. She will be in residence at Koda, New York in Fall 2022.
