In my art making process, I find myself reacting to and playing with my collected materials: dried flowers, recycled paper, embroidery thread, coffee, tissue paper, paint. My paper-making process is especially important to me, as the surface of the art becomes a part of the subject matter, not simply the base for a composition. I have recently shifted to smaller pieces that—due to the nature of their media—are extremely delicate. Petals often fall from my works as I create them, changing on their own; paper tears and crumbles, even as I apply paint, inspiring a conversation around the preciousness of fragile things.
