My work in this series consists of humorous moments that allude to a larger, more sinister narrative. With previous works, I’ve painted less with the intent of communicating a message or sparking a reaction from the viewer; here, however, I intend to spark a strong response from the viewer as they attempt to understand what is happening in this work. The conflicting tones of humor and peril throughout the series exist together to serve as catalysts for their response, and I am especially interested in seeing the discussion that will emerge. However, I ultimately see this series as a work intended only for those who understand the ridiculousness of it, as the varied reactions from the audience are a crucial component of the experience. At the end of the day, the series is a tool to reassure us of the subjectivity surrounding our perceptions.
