I am an artist working predominantly in photography and print. As a native of Central Texas, I explore themes of family, loss, dreams, and the past through personal works tied to my family home in New Braunfels. The house originally served as my family’s vacation home during visits from Mexico, until they moved to Texas part-time in the 1980s. Abuela’s House (2021) is a series of photographs documenting what was once my grandmother’s home. Each photo is tied to a specific memory I have of her: the kitchen where she taught me how to scramble eggs, the chairs we used to sit in while eating copious amounts of junk food and watching movies, and the painting of her we brought back from Mexico after she died. Thinking back on the years she was alive, I feel like I am remembering a dream.
